Madison Police invites community feedback for CALEA re-accreditation

MADISON – The Madison Police Department is seeking community feedback through their CALEA re-accreditation process. The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) is an organization which sets high standards and best practices for law enforcement agencies. The Madison Police Department was originally accredited in 2019. Beginning March 12th 2023, CALEA will have a representative on-site reviewing the police department’s practices.

“Agencies must volunteer to become accredited by CALEA, and it’s an honor for MPD to hold the accreditation. We have successfully met the standards for four continuous years, and now our agency is eligible for re-accrediation,” Chief Johnny Gandy said. “We hope our community recognizes the quality of policing and safety supported by our officers.”

CALEA’s on-site assessor will spend time with the Madison Police Department and review public comments to help determine suitability for re-accreditation. Citizens and organizations that are served by the Madison Police Department, or have collaborated with Madison PD, are encouraged to submit a comment in the form of a commendation or concern as it relates to the standards.
