Judgeship moved from Jefferson to Madison County

MONTGOMERY — Madison County is getting an addition circuit judge. A state commission voted to move a vacant circuit court judgeship from Jefferson to Madison County.

Alabama Chief Justice Tom Parker said the Alabama Judicial Resources Allocation Commission made the decision  because there is a greater need for the position in Madison County. Parker serves as chairman of the commission.

Based on the most recent weighted caseload study, Parker said the study showed the 10th Judicial Circuit in Jefferson County had an excess of judges while the 23rd Judicial Circuit in Madison County had a deficit.

The Madison County Judicial Commission will now start accepting applications from qualified attorneys for the Circuit Judgeship. Applications may be obtained from the office of the Court Administrator Kim McKoy, located in Room 327 of the Madison County Courthouse.

The Madison County Judicial Commission will formally convene to interview applicants and conduct its vote on Friday, June 24, at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom #1 of the Madison County Courthouse.
