BOSTON, MASS.-  With near perfect weather conditions upon New England on April 18, the 126^th Boston Marathon was held without a hitch with over 25,000 runners taking to the streets of Boston including two from Madison.

In the men’s division, Josh Cornett, 28, had a 7:54 pace and completed the marathon with a time of 3:26:43. He finished 7,417 among males and 9,522 overall of the 24,918 that officially completed the 26.2-mile race. In women’s 30-year old Sarah Wall finished with a time of 3:54.09, which included an 8:56 pace. Her finish time was 5,831 among females and 16,319 overall.

The top finishers in both men’s and women’s divisions in the 2022 race were dominated by Kenyans. Evans Chebet won his first Boston Marathon title with the eighth fastest time in Boston Marathon history. The Kenyan finished with a time of 2:06:51. In women’s, a Boston Marathon debut was superb for Peres Jepchirchir as she posted a final time of 2:21:01 and became the fifth Olympic Marathon champion to win Boston. She also became the first athlete in history to have won the Boston, New York City and Olympic Marathon titles.

Some additional 2022 race notes include Guinness World Record holder Jocelyn Rivas finished her 112^th marathon in a time of 4:40:47; NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth finished in a time of 3:01:40; Previous “The Bachelor” lead Matt James finished in a time of 3:49:38; Zac Clark, previous contestant on “The Bachelorette,” completed in the course in 3:43:46.

Of the 25,314 athletes that began the race 98.4-percent completed the route ending on Boylston Street.
