Number of COVID patients dip slightly at Madison Hospital, but increases in other area facilities

MADISON – While the number of COVID patients at Madison Hospital has dipped a little today, Huntsville Hospital says the number is increases at their other facilities. In the latest numbers released by Huntsville Hospital, 129 patients have COVID throughout their system. That includes hospitals in Madison, Limestone, Morgan, Colbert and Franklin counties. That is up from yesterday’s total of 113, and 51 more since Friday.

In Madison County, there are 69 patients with COVID, 16 of those are at Madison Hospital with five in ICU. Yesterday, Madison Hospital reported 21 COVID patients with four in ICU.

The Alabama Department of Public Health says there have been 784 new cases of COVID reported in the last 14 days. The number of daily reported cases peaked on July 22 with 85 new cases that day. There were 78 cases reported for yesterday.

In Limestone County, the Alabama Department of Public Health says there are 234 new cases of COVID in the past 14 days. There were 21 new cases reported yesterday, Monday and last Wednesday for that area’s highest daily total.

Yesterday, State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris said, “The slope of the increase is unprecedented. This upward trend is extremely concerning, especially with the Delta variant being highly infectious and much more transmissible than earlier strains.”
