All-State Volleyball Player Joy Robinson Signs Scholarship With Albany State

MADISON- Team Most Valuable Player, Area Most Valuable Player and Class 7A First Team All-State volleyball player Joy Robinson has completed her playing time with the Bob Jones Patriots and has signed an athletic scholarship with Albany State of Georgia. The senior celebrated her signing with family and friends in a ceremony at her school.

“Albany State coaches really showed interest in me when they first reached out to me when I was a junior,” said Robinson. “I loved the fact they made feel wanted and their transparency about everything involved as I had to decide between three schools for my choice of college and Albany State stood out.”

Robinson completed three years of varsity play for the Patriots with 395 sets participated in and posting 643 kills, 633 digs, 96 aces and 243 blocks. The 5-foot-9 athlete was introduced to volleyball in the seventh grade and she quickly developed a passion for the sport and her efforts of wanting to play well with a shot at college athletics. To assist in obtaining a college education is her skills in the classroom as she carries a 4.52 grade point average.

“I’ve always been kind of nerdy as I was really into academics, always reading,” said Robinson, who once was chosen to speak to the Alabama Senate while she was in the fifth grade. “I’m not an aggressive person, but had to coral the physical aspects of the sport to get that mental state needed to excel in the sport I love.”

Robinson was presented the Bob Jones High School Heisman Award for her outstanding athletic achievements and her continuous volunteer work at her church and the public library. She once attended a musicology school where she took voice and piano lessons, but her true passion has been volleyball, her ticket to a college education where she wants to earn a degree in accounting.

Robinson was born in San Diego, Cal. to Corey and LaTonya Robinson. Her family moved to Madison when Robinson was a mere seven years old.

Albany State is a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and participates in the NCAA Div. II. Robinson looks forward to completing her senior year at Bob Jones, packing her volleyball bags for Albany, Ga. and start the next chapter in her life that has been rewarding in different ways.
