MADISON – Huntsville Hospital Health System said Tuesday they have administered Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine to more than 6,400 physicians, nurses, paramedics and other health care workers across North Alabama.

According to officials with Huntsville Hospital, more vaccinations are scheduled this week.

The continued vaccination of front-line healthcare workers and emergency first responders comes as health officials brace for an expected surge in COVID-19 cases from the Christmas holidays.

So far, coronavirus numbers have remained steady over the past two weeks. Madison County and Limestone County were listed last week by the Alabama Public Health Department as moderate risk areas. Limestone had previous been listed as a high risk county.

In Madison County, there have been 3,929 new cases of COVID-19 within the past two weeks. Daily positive cases peaked during that time to 525 on New Year’s Day, but has since dropped to 292 on Tuesday. So far there have been 21,623 positive cases confirmed in Madison County since March. There have been 181 deaths associated with the virus during that time.

In Limestone County, there have been 974 positive cases of COVID-19 within the past fourteen days. There were 110 new cases on Tuesday. There have been 6,339 confirmed cases in the county since March, and 59 deaths.
