MADISON- Avery Seaton has been a part of over 7,000 yards of offense in his three years of on-field action for the Madison Academy Mustangs and his efforts have paid off in more ways than one as the senior signal caller has been named one of two quarterbacks to the North Squad for the 62^nd AHSAA North-South All-Star Football Game scheduled for Dec. 18 in Mobile.

“This is very exciting and it’s a blessing to be selected for this honor as I was very surprised to find out I had been chosen for this elite game,” said Seaton. “I’m ready for the challenge in the All-Star Game and our upcoming playoff run.”

The annual contest pitting seniors from across Alabama was to be played in July as part of the All-Star Week, but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The game was rescheduled for December and moved from its usual home of Montgomery to the Port City of Mobile and will be played at the University of South Alabama’s (USA) Hancock Whitney Stadium, which opened this year.

The Mustangs (8-0, 7-0) have an undefeated season and a Region 7 championship and will face Dora (5-4) in the first round of the Class 4-A playoffs. Seaton has had 1,417 yards and 17 touchdowns passing and an additional 996 yards and 10 TDs rushing in the Mustang’s undefeated run and a No. 2 state ranking heading into post-season play. As a team, Madison Academy has outscored its opponents 288-106 in the 2020 season.

Seaton (5-11, 200) is rated the No. 1 quarterback in Class 4-A and among the top five in all-classifications. He’s had some contact from college football programs, but has already verbally committed to attend UAH on a baseball scholarship as a leader on the Mustangs’ baseball team. He was selected to participate in both the EXOS Select 50 Quarterback program and the Perfect Game Baseball program.

“I’m waiting to a future date to make my decision on what I’ll be choosing in sport and college,” said Seaton, son of Arthur and Ashley Seaton. “I plan on studying business administration.”

“Avery really hasn’t had much contact from schools due to the COVID-19 situation, but right now money for his college is in baseball. We’ve watched his journey here at Madison Academy and we are so proud of him,” said Arthur Seaton.

Seaton has taken every snap at quarterback the last two seasons. As a junior, he passed for 2,844 yards and 19 touchdowns and had 15 touchdowns on 1,148 yards rushing. He was a backup quarterback his sophomore season, but still had over 1,000 yards passing and 500 yards rushing.

He’s a duel-threat talent on the football field and an outstanding hitter in baseball, but his selection to the All-Star North squad is certainly a highlight of his years with Madison Academy.

“There are great players on both squads in the upcoming game and I’ll soak in the experience,” said Seaton. “I know I’ll be getting exposure of my talents like no other place and just the thought of the game putting me out there more is a blessing.”

Seaton is humble about his talents and understands it’s a team effort. He added, “I’d like to thank for my offensive line as if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be where I am as they have helped me tremendously. Matter of fact, the entire team has been very supportive and I need to thank each of them for their help.”
