MADISON – Karen Denzine is a candidate for Madison City Council, District 6.

“I am running to give the residents of District 6 a voice on their City Council,” Denzine said. Her campaign slogan is “Your choice. Your voice.”

Residents deserve representation on the issues. “It is a basic tenet of representative government,” she said.

Denzine said she understands how City Council works, because for years she has studied issues introduced to council and regularly attended council meetings. “I’ve also attended work sessions where issues are discussed in greater detail,” Denzine said. She has served on Industrial Development Board.

“City government’s role is to focus on the needs of families and individuals living in our community, and that is what I will do,” Denzine said.

“To balance our residential growth, our city needs and deserves a strong economic development strategy. By expanding our tax base, the city will continue to bring in necessary revenue. I support responsible city growth, which does not result in congested roads and crowded classrooms,” Denzine said.

Council should evaluate each proposed development on its merit. “Do benefits outweigh costs to the city? I did support the tax increase for our schools because our children are our future,” Denzine said.

At the University of Georgia, Denzine earned bachelor and master’s degrees with commercial and industrial real estate as her major.

“Community service is an integral part my of life,” she said. She has volunteered with Madison Street Festival, Meals on Wheels, Kids to Love and ReadyFest. She provides childcare at Downtown Rescue Mission, serves Veteran Administration medical system and assists with Good Samaritan Hospice.

Her husband David recently retired from Department of Defense. The Denzines moved to Madison in 2009.

The Denzines are parents of five sons: Jordan, University of Alabama graduate; Daniel, Ball State University graduate; Jason, Purdue University; and twins Tyler and James of Tuscaloosa. The family served in England, Germany and Italy for 12 years.
