Madison and Limestone counties report more COVID-19 deaths

Two more Limestone County residents and one more Madison County resident have died of COVID-19, according to data released this morning by the Alabama Department of Public Health, bringing the total between the two counties to 12.

According to the data, 22 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed among Limestone County residents over the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 596. The county has been averaging 19 new cases per day over the last seven days. There are now three deaths associated with COVID-19 in that county.

There have been nine deaths in Madison with 157 new cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 1,983. The case rate has continued to climb drastically over the past few days, prompting dire warnings from healthcare officials to practice social distancing and wearing masks. A mask order went into place Tuesday, but officials say they expect the number of cases to continue to rise into next week before coming down due to 4th of July celebrations.

Statewide, there are 49,892 cases confirmed with 1,077 deaths. There have been 15,120 new cases within the past 14 days.
