HANCEVILLE- The Madison Academy girls basketball team defeated Hamilton (72-28), Pleasant Grove (61-40) and West Point (69-54) to win the Northwest Regional and advance to the AHSAA State Tournament. The Lady Mustangs will play its semi-final finals game versus Shelby County (28-3) Wednesday, Feb. 26 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Legacy Arena at the BJCC in Birmingham.

“We have seen and talked about how the probability of anything can happen rises the further the team advances,” said Alissa Flowers head coach of Madison Academy. “With the group of competitors we have, as we head into game six of this post-season, we’re ready to continue the things we have been doing all season long to put ourselves in the best position to maximize the potential of this team.”

Madison Academy (30-4) were led by regional MVP Nequoia Adams (Jr., 5-8, G) who scored 21 points and grabbed six rebounds in the West Point (29-6) victory. Jaden Langford added 20 points while Destinee McGee had 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Lady Mustangs lost to Central-Tuscaloosa in the Class 5A state championship game 68-65 a season ago. The program won state titles in both 2017 and 2018.

“Our players and coaching staff are excited and grateful to have the opportunity to return to the state tournament,” added Flowers, in her third year as head coach. “We’re ready to God the glory regardless of the outcome.”
