$5-Thousand Purse Up For Grabs In Huntsville Tailgate Classic Cornhole Tournament
HUNTSVILLE- The inaugural Huntsville tailgate Classic Cornhole Tournament will be held at Huntsville’s Campus No. 805 on Aug. 24 and will feature a total purse of $5,000.
The announced tournament by the Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau is sanctioned by the American Cornhole Organization (ACO) and will feature a double-elimination tournament, open play and a “luck of the draw” competition.
The fastest growing sport in the United States is governed by the ACO and has held 13 World Championships with the first titles being held in 2005. The sport through the ACO also has its own Digital Network at WeAreCornhole.com. The ACO was created by Frank Geers 14 years ago and has formed uniformed rules that have been adopted by leagues all over the world and has provided official equipment, tournament listings and comprehensive information about cornhole events.
“It’s fun, easy to play, simple to set up, can be played anywhere, whether you’re male or female, eight to 80, it’s an everyone sport,” said Geers.
The Huntsville Tailgate Classic is being hailed as the kick off to the ACO’s fall season. Players from all over the nation are expected to among the confines of Butler Green located among the West Huntsville Campus No. 805. Breweries among the facility are assisting in the presentation of the fun event. Those include Straight To Ale and Yellowhammer.
“We’re excited about having visiting players coming to Huntsville, but we want to stress that this is also a Huntsville community event,” said Madison Kilpatrick of Campus No. 805. “It’s a fun tournament for local players.”
The Huntsville Tailgate Classic will feature food, vendors and concessions for fans and participants at Butler Green, as well as, through tournament sponsors Straight To Ale and Yellowhammer Brewing at Campus No. 805.
The Alzheimer’s Association is the charitable partner for the Huntsville Tailgate Classic through cooperation with the Huntsville-Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The Huntsville tailgate Classic will be held 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Registration is available at americancornhole.com/events.
