Senior Center closing to the public at noon through April 3

HUNTSVILLE – The Madison Senior Center will join others throughout Huntsville and Madison County in closing temporarily due to the coronavirus.

The Huntsville-Madison County Senior announced Friday they will be closing their facilities starting today at noon.

“We are taking concerns about the spread of COVID-19 seriously, following the news about it closely, and staying in contact with local planning and health professionals,” said Tom Glynn, Executive Director. “Our nonprofit organization provides services to some of our community’s most vulnerable citizens. The safety and protection of the populations we serve is our top priority.”

With the exceptions of Meals on Wheels and Adult Day Care, the Huntsville-Madison County Senior Center will remain closed through April 3. These closings include senior centers in Gurley, Madison, New Hope, New Market, and New Sharon, as well as the outreach SAIL classes at Fern Bell Park Recreation Center.

Reopening on April 6 will be re-evaluated based on community conditions.

Senior Center staff will be identifying seniors in need of support services, including meals. Meals on Wheels deliveries will continue and additional volunteers may be needed. Anyone willing to volunteer to deliver meals can call 256.513.8320.

“We thank the community for the ongoing generous support and understanding as we work through these challenging times together,” Glynn said.
