Madison City Schools to dismiss early today

MADISON — Madison City Schools announced this morning that all schools will dismiss early today due to severe weather concerns.

Pre-K will dismiss at noon, elementary schools at 12:30 and middle and high schools at 1:15. Bus schedules have been adjusted accordingly.

All extended day and after-school activities are cancelled for today. Lunch will be served to students before they dismiss.

MCS officials reached the decision to dismiss early after “closely monitoring” the weather and attending an area-wide weather briefing earlier this morning.

“Bad weather closures are some of the toughest decisions I have to make,” Superintendent Robby Parker said in a statement. “My greatest concern today is if severe weather arrives during dismissal when buses and teen drivers are on the road. At this time, the main line of storms is expected to arrive in the 3 to 4 time frame.”
