On Aug. 10, a course for CPR, First Aid and using an automated external defibrillator or AED will be available. Affiliated with American Red Cross, the class is open to adults (12-year-olds and older).

This course involves blended learning, and participants must complete an online portion that can require to two hours to complete. In addition, a three-hour, in-person skills test is required. This course teaches basic CPR techniques, AED usage, barrier device skills and emergency choking measures for an adult and pediatric victim.

Participants who complete the course will receive certification. Fee is $65 for YMCA members and $85 for others. For more information, call 256-705-9622 or email molly.frankenberg@ymcahuntsville.org.

The program utilizes the YMCA gym and pool and can help improve aerobic capacity, body composition, muscle strength, endurance and flexibility.

The class requires a minimum of four students. Class meets once weekly. Demarco Coleman will be the P.E. instructor.

The child will learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences. Parents will learn about water safety, drowning prevention and the importance of supervision.

“Water Discovery” or Stage A introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment. “Water Exploration” or Stage B focuses on exploring body positions, blowing bubbles and fundamental safety and aquatics skills. All children who are not potty trained must wear swim diapers, which are available for $1 at the member services desk.

Class fees vary by age and if parents are YMCA members. For more information, call 256-705-9622 or email molly.frankenberg@ymcahuntsville.org.
