USA Patriots Amputee Softball Team in play on Sept. 28

MADISON – The USA Patriots Amputee Softball Team will play in a double-header softball game at Madison Academy on Sept. 28.

Formerly, USA Patriots were named the Wounded Warriors.

In Game 1 at 10 a.m., the USA Patriots will take on the Redstone Arsenal Senior Leaders. In Game 2 at 12:30 p.m., the USA Patriots will play against Team Madison.

“Bring your family and spend a fun day at the ballfield while honoring their sacrifices. Admission is free,” spokesperson Reginald Belton said. Madison Academy’s address is 325 Slaughter Road.

The USA Patriots Softball Team, a 501(c)3 public charity, inspires and educates others while enhancing the health and welfare of Wounded Warrior Amputees. The USA Patriots organization represents some of the nation’s bravest and most determined heroes, soldiers and veterans.

These men and women have sustained severe injuries resulting in amputation. With extensive rehabilitation, they have become competitive athletes again, playing against able-bodied teams in exhibition games across the country. Their armor now includes prosthetic legs and arms, along with extreme perseverance and attitude, Belton said.

“Of course, our dream would be the return of our soldiers from harm’s way without the loss of life or limb. Until such a time, our goal is to support and honor our veterans’ sacrifices, and to show others that life without a limb is limitless,” Belton said.

Individuals can donate to or sponsor USA Patriots softball games. The local sponsor is the Association of the United States Army or AUSA, YP Huntsville chapter. The teams also welcome supplies, such as drinks for teams, snacks for teams, softballs, printing and copying and T-shirts. For details about donations, call Michael Bryce at 256-701-1489 or email ausaredstoneyp@gmail.com.

The USA Patriots is not affiliated with other charities having the words “Wounded Warrior” in their name (for example, Wounded Warrior Project).
