Steven Satcher likes rugged game of rugby

MADISON – Steven Satcher chooses rugby as his favorite sport. “Just the fact that it’s more than in just America, and it’s also pretty rough, especially given that you don’t wear any padding. It’s manly!” he said.

“I’ve played baseball, football and soccer when I was really little. I also played basketball and rugby while my family and I lived in New Zealand for a year. I played basketball with Upward as well,” Steven said.

A Discovery eighth-grader, Steven has participated with the robotics team, and he is an Airman in Civil Air Patrol. Steven and his family have fostered dogs. He has pitched in to help community service projects with his youth group at Asbury United Methodist Church.

“In the past, I was a part of the safety patrol at my school in New Zealand and helped kids get across the road safely. A lot of kids walked to school. I was also in Boy Scouts and chess for a while in elementary school,” Steven said.

Also a Discovery student, his brother Jack is in seventh grade. “We moved here 11 years ago for my dad’s job,” Steven said. Their parents are Ted and Laura Satcher.

A: “That’s a tough one. I’d have to say soup, salad, bread, pizza and all things Italian.”

Q: What are your favorite sports teams?

A: University of Alabama (Roll Tide, Roll), Denver Broncos and Bob Jones Patriots.

Q: What is your favorite sports memory?

A: As a football wide receiver, “I had been having trouble with this one deep pass throughout the season. In the last game, I finally caught it on the play and scored,” Steven said.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?

A: “I like to play strategy-based video games, such as ‘Company of Heroes 2’ and ‘Civilization.’ I also like to shoot guns, exercise and build computers,” Steven said.

An avid writer, Steven is knowledgeable about guns, airplanes and World War II. In New Zealand, he learned to make Zopf, a braided Swiss bread. Steven plays saxophone and piano.
