MADISON – For their Jan. 15 meeting, Republican Women of Madison will welcome Becky Gerritson, Executive Director of the Eagle Forum.

Gerritson will discuss the ramifications of a proposed amendment that will change the method of selecting members of Alabama State Board of Education. Currently, the public elects members; the proposal would place members by appointment of the Alabama governor. The proposal for the amendment will appear on the primary ballot on March 3.

“Becky Gerritson will explain the proposed changes and discuss what it means for Alabama students,” club president Sheila Banister said.

The Jan. 15 meeting will open with social time at 11 a.m., with the meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Luncheons are held at Best Western Plus, 9035 Madison Blvd. in Madison. Cost is $15, payable at the event by cash or check.

Guest speaker Gerritson entered conservative grassroots politics when she and husband Eric founded the Wetumpka TEA Party in 2009, which grew to the largest and most active TEA Party in Alabama. She served as President until January 2019.

In other work, she is Alabama State Coordinator for Foundation for Liberty and American Greatness or FLAG and National Grassroots Coordinator for Grassroots for Victory USA. She has worked actively with Stop Common Core Task Force in Alabama and ParentalRights.org.

In 2016, Gerritson ran for U.S. Congress in Alabama’s Second District.

Gerritson’s activism has drawn praise from conservative figures Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck. She was named in Yellowhammer’s “2017 Power and Influence List” and AL.com’s “20 Most Influential List in 2015.”

“We’re currently running our annual membership drive. We would love to have you join our club and become an active participant,” Banister said.

“Active membership is open to any woman who supports the Republican Women of Madison’s objectives. Active members receive regular communications via email and have voting rights. Annual dues are $40,” Banister said.

In addition, associate membership is open to women who are regular members of another Federated Republican Women’s club; men who want to join the club; and spouses of club members. Associate members do not vote; annual dues are $15.
