Sci-Quest holds daily sessions for science fun during summer
HUNTSVILLE – The “Super Summer of Science Fun” is well underway at Sci-Quest Hands-on Science Center.
“Sci-Quest is the place to be this summer,” development and marketing director Jennifer Deermer said. “Each day is themed with different activities and new and exciting shows for children of all ages.”
Sessions on Monday through Friday meet from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sci-Quest also is open late on Thursdays until 8 p.m. and offers Family Science Night.
On June 30 for Mega Structure Mondays, children can attend “Straw Towers” to build a tower out of straws that can withstand an ‘earthquake.’
For Tinkering Tuesdays, the kids use all kinds of materials to spark curiosity and exploration while they design. On July 1 in “Scribble Bots,” they will learn how to program LEGO robots and make an art piece.
Mid-week turns into Wild Wednesdays. On July 2, youngsters will meet the Sci-Quest turtle clan during “Turtles and Tortoises” and see where the animals live and their unique characteristics.
Thinker Thursdays will challenge the youth’s minds with fun and scientific brain games. During “Brain Teasers” on July 3, the kids will try their hand at some feats of skill.
The Freaky Fridays series will include “It’s a Super Small World” on July 11. Participants will discover a world that is too small to see but affects everyday life. They will see coins change color, make sticky substances and learn about nano technology at the same time.
In addition, a special pre-kindergarten component will offer fun hands-on activities for the youngest visitors.
Sci-Quest’s address is 1435 Paramount Drive. For more information, call 256-837-0606 or visit sci-quest.org.
