On Nov. 30 for the “Christmas Around the Globe” workshop, “kids will pick up their passport at the door and begin their flight around the globe to experience Christmas traditions in four different countries,” Barbara Sanders said. Sanders works as the YMCA’s family services director.

In different ‘countries,’ the campers will make a Christmas ornament, eat snacks and create a gift for mom. “We have a long trip ahead of us, so rest up and come ready to travel,” Sanders said.

All workshops run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and are open to children from five to 12 years old. ‘Campers’ can swim at all workshops.

On Dec. 7, Santa will be stop by the YMCA for the “Santa Claus Is Coming!” workshop. Children will join him in Santa’s Photo Booth for a take-home photo in a decorated frame.

“We’ll make a duct tape wallet for dad, reindeer food, an ornament and decorate cookies,” Sanders said.

For “All Aboard the Polar Express” on Dec. 14, the kids can wear their pajamas while making a Christmas ornament inspired by Chris Van Allsburg’s book, “The Polar Express” and subsequent movie. Sanders promises a hot chocolate bar and gift making for a special grandparent or teacher.

“The YMCA Elf will be up to no good all day long” for “Elf on the Shelf” on Dec. 21, Sanders said. “Our job will be to keep a close eye on him so that he won’t get in trouble while we’re trying to have a fun day.” Kids will play “Minute to Win It,” watch a Christmas movie and make gifts for siblings and an “Elf Mix” snack.

Workshop fees are $25 for YMCA members and $60 for other individuals. Each session includes lunch, snacks, movies, swimming and crafts materials.
