MADISON – Members of Madison City Community Orchestra realize the sweltering summer heat has everyone down, but the good news is the orchestra’s fall/winter season is just on the horizon.

Regular rehearsals resumed on Aug. 7 at Madison United Methodist Church at 127 Church St. in downtown Madison from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. “If you are interested in joining the orchestra, we still have open sections for violas, clarinets and more,” Director Sandy Weisner said.

In their upcoming season, the orchestra will appear at Madison Street Festival on Oct. 7 at 10 p.m. MCCO will open the performances at the Community Showcase stage, adjacent to Madison Gazebo on Front Street.

“At the Madison Street Festival, we will perform a short selection of songs from our summer and fall programs,” Weisner said.

MCCO will present their Fall Pops Series Concert on Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of James Clemens High School. This concert will include hits from the Broadway stage and tunes associated with the Harry Potter series. The audience can look forward to popular tunes from Tony winners, like “Wicked” and “Hamilton.”

“Then in the spring, we are doing Dvorak’s ‘9th Symphony’ or ‘New World Symphony’ in May 2018 at James Clemens. We are waiting on specific date approval,” Weisner said.

On Dec. 1, the orchestra will perform during the Children’s Lantern Parade and official lighting of Christmas trees and street decorations in downtown Madison at 5:30 p.m.

The 2018 Winter Concert is scheduled for Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. at Madison UMC. The orchestra will entertain the audience with seasonal favorites and holiday selections. The orchestra’s intricate harmonies and jingle-bell rhythms will invoke the spirit of Christmas.

Established in 2015, Madison City Community Orchestra is a 501(c)3 organization that promotes the appreciation of music in all its various forms. MCCO seeks to elevate the accepted levels of musical education and enjoyment, along with presenting quality performances for a diverse public throughout the Tennessee Valley.

“MCCO offers a much needed outlet for those that are experienced players who enjoy playing and wish to foster appreciation for orchestral arts,” Weisner said.
