Sam Goodwin likes pro teams with AU alums

MADISON – Sam Goodwin splits his sports time between baseball and football.

In baseball, Sam has participated with the recreation league at Palmer Park for three years. “I was able to go to Southaven, Miss. this summer to participate in the Dizzy Dean World Series with the Madison Elite All-Star Team,” he said.

Sam plays both third base and left field. “However, Sam has had the opportunity to catch in a couple of games and truly enjoys being a catcher,” his mother Kris Goodwin said.

Sam also plays flag football with Upward Sports in Madison. In games, he covers the roles of quarterback and running back. “I love football and wish the flag football season was longer,” Sam said.

If he has to choose, Sam will name football as his favorite sport. “I like it because there is always something going on, and I get to be involved in every play,” he said.

At Horizon Elementary School, Sam is a first-grader and is exploring his options with school clubs and community organizations. He attends First Baptist Church of Huntsville, where participates with Royal Ambassadors and in children’s choir.

Sam’s 11-year-old sister, Madelaine, is a sixth-grader at Horizon Elementary School.

Their parents are Brian and Kris Goodwin. Brian has worked for Adtran for several years and currently serves as Senior Director of Engineering. Kris, a nurse practitioner, works at Crestwood Medical Center, where she is Director of Critical Care and Cardiovascular Services.

Brian moved to Madison in the mid-1990s to begin his engineering career at Adtran. Kris moved to Madison in 2003 from Jackson, Tenn. to be with Brian.
