Fantasy Playhouse plans open call for ‘Rocket City’s Got Talent’

MADISON – Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater & Academy will introduce a new outlet in June for local performers to show their artistic abilities.

Fantasy Playhouse is conducting an open call for local acts to compete in their inaugural “Rocket City’s Got Talent!” gala. The event venue will be Randolph School’s Thurber Arts Center on June 7 from 6 to 10 p.m.

“Fantasy Playhouse is seeking video audition submissions from all varieties of entertainment acts in the North Alabama area to be considered for Rocket City’s Got Talent!” spokesperson Ellie Reynolds said. “All acts are welcome to apply — from rock bands to classical musicians, any genre of singer or dancers, solo acts or established groups, from comedy acts to magicians and beyond.”

This talent contest does not have age restrictions. “We hope to include all kinds of talent from the Huntsville/Madison County area. We hope our auditions cover the scope from kids to young adults to adults,” Reynolds said.

Any individual or group that wants to audition must state the name of performer or group act; age, if younger than 18 years; name or title of performance piece, description of the act; and two photos of the performer/group act.

In addition, the auditionee must upload a performance video of three minutes or less to YouTube. Email the video link and the other details to gala@fantasyplayhouse.com.

Organizers are asking for the age for potential sharing permissions on social media after judges have chosen acts to appear. Some performers may need a guardian as a co-signer.

Deadline for submitting auditions is April 22.

The top 10 acts to appear live at Rocket City’s Got Talent! will be announced in early May. Selected acts must prepare two performance pieces of three minutes each and must attend two pre-show rehearsals.

“Rocket City’s Got Talent! will be a high-energy celebration that will gather over 500 supporters, including arts and theatre lovers, community leaders and business professionals for an evening of stories, song, music, laughter and so much more,” Reynolds said.

The evening will include refreshments and a silent auction of upscale merchandise and unique experiences from some of North Alabama’s favorite businesses. Corporate sponsorships are available.

Event proceeds will support Fantasy Playhouse’s mission and programming that uses the transformational power of theatre to inspire and shape children, she said.

Fantasy Playhouse’s address is 3312 Long Ave. SW in Huntsville. For more information, call 266-539-6829, email info@fantasyplayhouse.com or visit fantasyplayhouse.com/gala.
