Madison City Schools district requires re-enrollment of all students

MADISON – Central Office staff with Madison City Schools has opened the re-enrollment process for all students.

The student’s legal parent or legal guardian will complete all registration entirely online.

To access instructions, visit the MCS website at madisoncity.k12.al.us. In the “District News” section, click “Time for Returning Students to Re-enroll in MCS.” The next page has an overview of the process, along with a link to more re-enrollment details at madisoncity.k12.al.us/domain/113.

MCS employees use re-enrollment information daily to work on staffing, student scheduling and other logistics in the operation of schools. By completing re-enrollment steps, the parent or guardian confirms that a student in high or middle school will receive a class schedule, and elementary students will be placed on a class roster.

Central Office employees have emailed Snapcodes to student families to use in re-enrollment. (A Snapcode is Snapchat’s version of a QR code.) The first emails for Snapcodes were sent on June 8 to “Contact 1” for the student in the MCS database. A second email was sent on June 23 to “Contact 1” and “Contact 2.”

The sender of these emails is noreplyregistration@powersschool.com. This step is an annual enrollment requirement. When completing this online re-enrollment, parents or guardians should update all contacts, especially emergency contacts.

For younger children to enroll in kindergarten, state law dictates that students must be five years old on or before Sept. 2 of the new school year. In addition, for children to enroll in first grade, Alabama laws require students to be six years old on or before Dec. 31 of the current school year.

Parents will need to familiarize themselves with certain terms:

* ‘Returning student’ — A student who currently is attending MCS and will advance to the next grade. Also considered ‘returning students’ are children who have been attending a MCS First Class and/or Early Beginnings PreKindergarten and will attend MCS this fall.

* ‘New student’ – A child or youth who will attend MCS for the first time in the 2022-2023 school year. Students who withdrew previously from MCS and now are returning also are considered ‘new students.’

If the child attended MCS in the 2021-2022 school year and was still enrolled on May 25, 2022, do not register as a new student. School employees will email a Snapcode when it is time to re-enroll.

If you have any questions regarding re-enrollment, call 256-772-9255 or email Kim Johnson at kljohnson@madisoncity.k12.al.us.
