MADISON – The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host “Fields of Faith” at the Bob Jones High School on Oct. 21.

The community-wide, one-hour event for all age groups will start at 7 p.m. on the campus’ track.

Schools partnering with Bob Jones for the event are James Clemens, Huntsville, and Sparkman high schools, Madison and Westminster academies and Randolph School, Bob Jones Assistant Principal Amy Thaxton said.

These students “will share their favorite Bible verse and why. A time for student-led group devotion, shared testimonies, praise and worship” is scheduled, Thaxton said. Organizers hope that up to 200 people will attend.

Jeff Martin founded Fields of Faith. “What is the difference in a nation that has no scriptures and doesn’t read them, and a nation that has an abundance of scriptures and doesn’t read them? Nothing,” Martin said.

Caleb Rogers, Bob Jones FCA leader this year, also is helping with the event.

“Fields of Faith is a great event that seemed to be the perfect opportunity for our community to come together to encourage and challenge each other to stay focused on God’s word,” student lead Rebecca Walthall said.

Bob Jones has hosted Fields of Faith for five years. “My first time attending the event was in 2012, my sophomore year,” Walthall said.

“For a while, I thought it was just a Bob Jones thing, but then I heard that students were gathering all over the country focused on encouraging each other to stay in God’s word,” Walthall said.

Bob Jones staff members and community volunteers will supervise the event.

Fields of Faith puts major emphasis on reading the scriptures. “They’re what connect us to God,” Thaxton said.

“Our wish is that students will take just 15 minutes out of their day to sit down and read the Bible,” Walthall said. “If that happens, many people’s lives could change. Students will realize they’re never facing anything alone.”
