MADISON – A Madison resident, public figure, mother and wife will add another title for herself after undertaking a new, challenging venture.

Maura Wroblewski is planning on swimming 15 miles for the Wounded Warriors Project during the month of August. She represents District 1 on Madison City Council and has volunteered frequently in civic projects to boost quality of life in Madison.

Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit organization, has designated its mission to honor and empower Wounded Warriors – men and women in military service who suffered injuries while serving. The project serves to raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service personnel.

In addition, the Wounded Warrior Project helps severely injured service members aid and assist each other and provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs. Facebook takes care of the donation processing with no fees.

Wounded Warriors holds the challenge, like Wroblewski has chosen, every August.

“Wounded Warriors is very dear to my heart. My dad, Thomas V. O’Dea, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War,” Wroblewski said. “Our daughter, Sarah Wroblewski, currently serves in the U.S. Air Force as a SSgt at Joint Air Force Base Charleston or JAB Charleston.”

“Being from a military family, marrying Ron Wroblewski, an Air Force veteran, and now having our daughter serve . . . well, the military is in my blood,” Maura Wroblewski said.

“This is such a difficult time right now for many, and our military is not spared from physical and emotional hardships,” Wroblewski said. “I have set an ambitious goal of raising $2,000 for this wonderful organization. Every penny raised goes directly to Wounded Warriors.”

Wroblewski swims at Phaze 3 fitness center in Madison at least three times each week. “I love it there. It’s so clean, and the staff is so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They are always encouraging me to set new goals with my workouts,” she said.

“Swimming is definitely my favorite exercise, and this is just a wonderful way to support our military,” Wroblewski said.
