Need a job? Madison PD is hiring

MADISON – Individuals who are looking for a job may want to consider an opening with Madison Police Department.

Currently, MPD is accepting applications for the position of police officer. Successful applicants for these positions must possess a current certification as a ‘peace officer’ with the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission or APOSTC.

For anyone hired as an officer, Madison Police Department will provide all uniforms to wear while on duty and during training exercises. The department will issue all required equipment to officers, according to Cpl. Chris Townsend.

MPD provides a yearly clothing allowance to officers each fiscal year. “The department has a ‘take-home’ vehicle program for officers who qualify,” Townsend said. Officers will receive regular in-service training and on-going training throughout the year, in addition to specialized training for those who qualify.

Officers are responsible for protecting life and property by enforcing laws and ordinances. A patrol officer must prevent and deter crime, apprehend criminals and enforce laws in a designated area of Madison or during an assigned shift.

In addition, a patrol officer must record and relay pertinent information that a supervisor disseminates at roll call; inspects, maintains and operates an assigned police vehicle in compliance with department policy; and inspects a patrol area for unusual or hazardous conditions and takes appropriate action when such conditions do exist.

“The City of Madison provides excellent employee benefits to all fulltime employees to include Blue Cross-Blue Shield Health Insurance, State of Alabama Retirement and options for deferred compensation,” Townsend said. For a complete list of employee benefits, contact the Human Resources Department for City of Madison at 256-772-5612.

The salary for an APOST-Certified patrol officer is $18.36 to $19.86 hourly; $1,468.88 to $1,588.80 biweekly; $3,182.57 to $3,442.40 or $38,190.88 to $41,308.80 annually.

The department will accept applications submitted online in the “Careers” section of the city website at governmentjobs.com/careers/madisonal.
