Master Gardeners open lunch workshops on Feb. 6

MADISON – Anyone interested in growing plants and home landscaping can brown-bag a lunch and attend Lunch ‘N Learn Workshops, starting Feb. 6 at Dublin Park, 8324 Old Madison Pike.

Master Gardeners of North Alabama, in cooperation with Alabama Cooperative Extension System, again will present a weekly series of free, hour-long educational workshops on Tuesdays at Dublin Park in Madison, according to Master Gardener publicist Sue Khoury said.

Held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the sessions will open on Feb. 6 with Master Gardener Nancy Billings discussing “Eating to Feel Better.” The first workshop will suggest healthful eating habits, especially by incorporating fresher, plant-based dishes.

The workshop schedule on Feb. 13 will feature “What Pests Are Buggin’ You in the Garden?” with Chris Becker, Limestone County Extension Coordinator. “Chris is entertaining and animated, as well as well versed in both outdoor and indoor insect, arachnid and arthropod pests, so take advantage of his depth and breadth of knowledge,” Khoury said.

Subsequent weeks will feature “Attracting Butterflies to Your Garden” with master gardener Jennifer Johnson on Feb. 20. Guests will learn methods to welcome butterfly pollinators to gardens.

“Composting” with master gardener Bill Fuller on Feb. 27 will offer composting tips, tricks and a demonstration of using wire compost bins. Fuller is 2017 Master Gardener of the Year and an expert of this subject matter.

“You do not have to be a master gardener to attend,” Khoury said. “All are invited to bring your lunch and enjoy the program. Don’t miss this informative and entertaining series.”

Although the workshops are free, registration is required. To register online, visit mginfo.org, click the Lunch ‘N Learn graphic and click “register now” on the next page. Or, participants can call 256-430-0555 or email workshopregistrar@mginfo.org.
