Soland’s book signings will start on Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. at the main branch. On Nov. 23, Soland will be in Madison at 1 p.m. and at the Bailey Cove branch at 3 p.m.

Released by Celtic Cat Publishing, “The Christmas Tree Angel” tells the inspirational story of an angel-shaped ornament that comes to life when placed on the Brown family’s tree. The angel learns from other ornaments that she will be packed away in a dark and dreary storage box for a full year at the end of the holiday season.

Determined not to meet that fate, the angel joins forces with a soldier ornament. Together, they formulate a plan that may answer prayers.

“I think stories WRITE you. I had this idea, and it continued to pester me. It was one of those stories that I couldn’t let go of,” Soland said.

While celebrating Christmas with family in San Diego, Soland found some quiet in her brother’s garage and wrote the book during Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and that night.

“I think people will root for the protagonist and encourage her not to listen to everyone ‘on the tree,'” Soland said. “Overall, the book will encourage people to stop living inside the box and get out of the box and live the life they were meant to live.”

Soland’s plays include “Waiting,” “Truth Be Told” and “The Name Game,” published internationally by Samuel French Inc. She has written more than 40 international publications, including “The Writer’s Motivation.”

Soland was inspired as a writer after meeting film icon Jimmy Stewart, who had read the nativity story at his Beverly Hills church. “He said hard work was the secret to his success,” Soland said. “There’s no way around it. We need to discover ourselves and not give up.”

A resident of Knoxville, Tenn., Soland teaches at Maryville College and Pellissippi State College.
