Republicans to welcome Sessions, discuss special election

MADISON – Former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions will be the featured guest and keynote speaker at the 2019 “Freedom Celebration.”

The Madison County Republican Party sponsors the annual gathering. This year’s event is scheduled for Oct. 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Jackson Center, 601 Genome Way in Huntsville.

Organizers encourage the public to enjoy a night of fine dining and listening to Sessions as keynote speaker.

Tickets are $50 each. For ticket information, call 256-536-0158 or visit gopgala.eventbrite.com or gopvipgala.eventbrite.com. For general information, visit mgop.org.

Republican Women of Madison also will sell tickets for the Freedom Celebration.

In other activity, Republican Women of Madison will devote its Aug. 21 meeting to discuss the Madison City Special Election on Sept. 10 for the proposed increase of 12-mil ad valorem tax to benefit Madison City Schools.

“It is not our purpose to drive a particular outcome of the election. We want to present information from several perspectives so that voters can be better informed,” spokesperson Dee L Voelkel said.

“We will have three different speakers and documents that will provide information that you may not be aware of. An opportunity for questions and answers will be included,” Voelkel said.

Scheduled speakers are Gerald Clark, Madison City Councilman, District 6; Tom Scovill, political activist; and Chad Baswell, Assistant Administrator for Madison County Tax Accessor. “We also have information from Robby Parker, Superintendent of Madison City Schools, and a summary of information that has been in the news leading up to this point,” Voelkel said.

Republic Women of Madison will open their meeting with a social time at 11 a.m. The meeting will run from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Best Western Plus, 9035 Madison Blvd.

For reservations, email repwomenmadison@gmail.com and include name and choice of entree or salad. Guests can pay the $15 fee by cash or check payable to Port of Madison.
