MADISON – Chris and Katie Moore are causing a ‘buzz’ with their new shop, Grounded Coffee, located at 12120 County Line Road, Suite C in the Village Shoppes of Madison.
“We serve some amazing, made-from-scratch baked goodies, but our focus is coffee, especially espresso,” Chris Moore said.
Grounded Coffee doesn’t use “a super-automatic espresso machine where you push a button and get coffee. Our espresso is prepared in a more traditional way … in a simpler setup that requires a trained barista’s skilled hand,” Moore said.
Their handcrafted house/espresso blend brings customers back. Customers like the rich, luscious espresso without bitterness. The house blend is “delicious and flavorful.” “We serve everything from standard drip coffee to caramel frappes with whipped cream,” Moore said. Flavored lattes in an array of flavors and combinations are popular.
Moore’s personal favorite is traditional cappuccino with two ounces each of “espresso, velvety steamed milk and lush micro-foam.”
Surprisingly, the Moore’s motivation in business is to serve people — not coffee. “(About) 70 percent of Americans don’t like their current job. This isn’t how things were meant to be,” he said. They want their team “to achieve a new level of success, personally and professionally. What better way to create these opportunities than to start a business based on them?”

Moore describes coffee as “the perfect balance — energy in the morning, relaxation at night, simple on the outside, complex on the inside.” However, the Moores get “lasting value” from “the impact we make on the lives of each other and those we serve.”
Store hours are Monday-Thursday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday until 9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Katie Moore works for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. He’s from Decatur and she’s from Huntsville. “After we married, we split the difference and moved to Madison,” he said. “We love it here.” The Moores are expecting their first child in December.
