MADISON – Two Madison students, Anna Felis and Grayson ‘Rivers’ Hovater, have earned the honor of reaching the “Top Ten” students at Calhoun Community College.

Calhoun recognized its top students for the 2014-15 academic year during the college’s 46th annual Honors Day program on May 1 on the Decatur campus, Janet Kincherlow-Martin said. Martin coordinates public affairs, community relations and special events at Calhoun.

Anna Felis of Madison is majoring in child development and holds a perfect 4.0 grade point average. For several semesters, she was named to the President’s List and has received numerous scholarships from Calhoun in the past two years.

Felis participates in Phi Theta Kappa honor society and is a member of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Active in her community, Felis teaches children’s Bible study and serves as a Sunday School teacher and nursery worker at her local church.

“Anna’s goal is to complete her education at Athens State University and eventually obtain her master’s degree in library science in order to become a children’s librarian,” Martin said.

Hovater is a general studies major from Madison with a 3.6 GPA. Currently, he serves as campus coordinator of the Student Government Association on the Huntsville campus and is a member of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

In community volunteering, Hovater helps at Manna House and as a worship intern at his church, where he contributes through his talents as a musician, singer and songwriter, Martin said. He also assists in numerous church events.

“Rivers’ goal is to eventually obtain a master’s degree in theology/religion, with a minor in music, and become a pastor or worship leader some day,” Martin said.

Also at Honors Day, representatives from four-year colleges and universities awarded scholarships to Calhoun students.
