Storm floods take over area

By declaring a State of Emergency, Bentley authorizes the Alabama Emergency Management Agency and other state agencies to assist communities and make the appropriate assessments of damage.

A massive storm system blew into North Alabama again Sunday, Jan. 12, bringing dangerous lightning, high winds and of course, more flooding.

Several roads in the Huntsville, Madison and Madison County area were and are still flooded after storms passed through North Alabama Sunday night into Monday morning. One motorist on Old Madison Pike had their vehicle swept of the road and numerous roads and homes were flooded again.

As a result of the flooding in Madison County, as well as the areas in the state, Gov. Robert Bentley has a declared a State of Emergency for all 67 Alabama counties.

By declaring a State of Emergency, Bentley authorizes the Alabama Emergency Management Agency and other state agencies to assist communities and make the appropriate assessments of damage.

“Our Emergency Management Agency will continue to monitor this severe weather and will be prepared for any potential impact on our communities,” Bentley said. “State agencies are on call and ready to assist communities. I urge Alabamians to heed weather warnings to protect their families, homes and businesses. The severe weather outbreak of last year is still fresh on our minds and is a reminder that we must take the threat of severe weather seriously.”

The area has been hit especially hard over the last 2 weeks with anywhere from 8-10 inches of rainfall. This is going to become problematic as more rain is in the forecast for the end of the week .
