Ordinance regulates fireworks for Triana

TRIANA – With the Fourth of July holiday approaching, residents of the Town of Triana should be aware of guidelines in place to regulate the usage of fireworks.

In 2018, the town enacted a fireworks ordinance that states the times and places that anyone can ignite fireworks. Specifically for the Fourth of July holiday, residents can shoot fireworks on that date only from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Triana Mayor Mary Caudle urges citizens to be aware of requirements for the ordinance and comply to confirm safety of Triana residents.

The ordinance prohibits using fireworks on town property, including the public fish pond and tornado shelter. Individuals are not allowed to shoot fireworks on or over a public roadway. Do not ignite any type of fireworks within 10 feet of a structure, including your house or a neighbor’s house.

In addition, anyone who shoots fireworks must have a fire extinguisher and a five-gallon bucket of water to extinguish the spent fireworks. An individual must clean up the debris, trash, papers and spent material from firecrackers, bottle rockets or other explosives within 24 hours.

The ordinance prohibits anyone who is intoxicated, or otherwise compromised, from using fireworks. An individual with fireworks must be 19 years old or supervised by an adult who is at least 19 years old.

Triana Police Department will confiscate professional or display fireworks from anyone who lacks the appropriate state and/or federal licenses and permits.

Caudle wishes “a safe and accident-free holiday for the Fourth of July and to be good neighbors in Triana.”
