Dinner starts at 5:45 p.m. and includes steak, baked potato, salad and dessert. “We’ll have a silent auction throughout the evening, along with live entertainment” in the gym, coordinator Missy Swager said. Door prizes and auction winners will be announced at 7:15, and the event ends at 8 p.m.

Auction items include a football autographed by Nick Sabin; 32-inch flat-screen TV; Coach sunglasses; two-night stay at Hilton hotel in Orange Beach; Alabama print by local artist Doug Hess; two rounds with cart at Sunset Landing Golf Course and Burning Tree Country Club; four rounds with cart at Canebrake Golf Course; and gift certificates from Blue Med Spa; restaurants and nail salons.

Proceeds will pay for immediate needs, like equipment and fees for tournaments, umpires and transportation. A.J. Daugherty is head coach for the softball team at James Clemens.

“As the inaugural season approaches, head coach A. J. Daugherty has outlined a long-term vision for building the team into a regional contender,” Swager said. “Though the community has provided the school building and basic facilities necessary to compete, additional facilities will be required for the program to flourish.”

Long-range projects include an indoor training area for hitting and practice that will allow no interruptions by inclement weather. “The boosters also will work for a brick backstop, dugouts and lights on practice field for hosting tournaments,” Swager said. “Tournaments will bring additional walk-in business to local establishments.”

Admission to Evening With the Jets costs $100 for two dinners and one entry for cash door prizes. Tickets are available from any softball player or by sending email to jchssoftball@gmail.com.

The James Clemens boosters, players and coaches encourage local businesses to donate items for the silent auction or any cash amounts to build the program. For more information, send email to jchssoftball@gmail.com or visit Facebook/James Clemens Softball.
