MADISON – When buying or selling merchandise with Craigslist, individuals can complete a transaction in the lobby of Madison Police Department, which is a Craigslist Safe Zone.

The police department, located at 100 Hughes Road in City Hall, allows citizens to safely finalize a sale or purchase of items from Craigslist. The lobby of Madison Police Department is open 24 hours each day.

Personnel in the Records Division monitor the windows during normal business hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday. For transactions occurring after hours, the lobby is under video surveillance.

In addition, a phone in the lobby directly accesses the police department’s dispatch at the 911 center.

Police officers want to remind Madison citizens to be wise consumers of such transactions, avoid scams and take precautions to ensure safety. Conducting these transactions in the Madison Police Department lobby is one way of improving personal safety.
