Registration open for JCTheatre Summer Spotlight Camp

MADISON – JCTheatre Summer Spotlight Camp 2023 has opened registration. For several years, this summer camp has been a sellout for youth interested in aspects of live theatre.

Students who will enter second through ninth grades for the 2023-2024 school year are eligible. Spotlight Camp’s dates are May 30 – June 2 from 9 a.m. to noon at James Clemens.

“JCTheatre Summer Spotlight Camp is a fun, creative opportunity to learn acting, musical or technical skills and put on a show,” James Clemens drama teacher Amy Patel said. “Campers will perform (onstage or backstage) in our Spotlight Showcase for family and friends at noon on June 2 to showcase what they have learned.”

Campers can choose their primary interests during camp:

* Acting — In a small group, campers will rehearse and perform a short scene.

* Musical Theatre — In a group of 15-+ students, campers will rehearse for singing and dancing to perform a song from a Broadway musical.

* Technical Theatre — In a small group, campers will design, build and run the technical elements of the show, including set construction, lighting and sound. Creating props, sewing costumes and hair and makeup design for the stage also are components.

Deadline for registration is April 30. Camp fee is $75 per student; pay by check, payable to “James Clemens High School.”

Payments are due by May 8. Mail a personal check to James Clemens High School, c/o M. Clinton Merritt, JCHS Theatre Summer Camp 2023, 11306 County Line Road, Madison, AL 35756.

Camp officials must receive payment by May 8 for the camper to receive a T-shirt. Along with the camp T-shirt, campers will receive a daily snack, plus a pizza lunch after the Spotlight Camp performance on June 2.

To register, visit forms.gle/TpV8VEZYmZ75xPa39. The registration form will collect details for the campers’ personal information and aptitudes, including contact info for parents and any medical conditions for the camper. The form requests campers’ experience — onstage or backstage — and preferences for study.
