Moore signs with Ole Miss, Jackson with UNC

Bob Jones Signing Day
Collins Moore signed with Ole Miss Wednesday, while teammate Kailen Mitchell signed with Henderson State University.

Bob Jones wide receiver Collins Moore showed up at Wednesday’s National Signing Day party at the school decked in a gray shirt, but the clothing selection was only a coincidence of the news Moore learned from Ole Miss.

Moore signed with Ole Miss Wednesday despite learning that he will grayshirt for the Rebels next season. Moore will officially join the team in January.

“It was very frustrating learning that information,” Moore said. “I’m a man of my word. I committed back on Aug. 8, 2010, and I kept my promise. You’ve got to do what’s best for the team.”

Teammate Kailen Mitchell also signed his letter of intent Wednesday to play football next season at Henderson State University.

Bob Jones Principal Robby Parker praised Moore and Mitchell for their effort on and off the field.

“They are great football players, but as good as they are on the football field, they’re even better people,” Parker said.

Patriots’ head coach Kevin Rose noted that less than 1 percent of high school football players go on to play at the next level, and for BJHS to have two athletes sign to play college ball is quite an accomplishment.

“That’s pretty special,” Rose said.

Madison Academy Signing Day
Kam Jackson signed his letter of intent Wednesday to play at the University of North Carolina.

On the other side of town, Madison Academy wide receiver/defensive back Kameron Jackson also signed a letter of intent to play next season at North Carolina.

“I’m proud to be a Tarheel,” said Jackson, who plans to play cornerback at Chapel Hill.

Mustangs’ head coach Eric Cohu praised Jackson for his work ethic, dedication and leadership.

“Two words come to mind when I think about Kam: consistency and hard work,” Cohu said. “Kameron is an outstanding young man. It’s an exciting day for the Tarheels.”
