Spring Break coincides with absentee voting deadline

Is your family planning a trip during Spring Break? Voting absentee is an option if you will be out of town during this time.

Madison City Schools and St. John the Baptist Catholic School will be closed for Spring Break on March 12-16. In email on March 2, Madison City’s “NotifyMe” distribution reminded parents that primary elections in Alabama will be March 13.

For Madison County, qualified voters who can’t go to their assigned polling place can apply to the “absentee election manager” (madisoncountyal.gov/voter/absentee.shtml).

March 8 is the last day for voters to apply for an absentee ballot. March 12 is the last day for voters to hand deliver or postmark an absentee ballot.

Voters can mail ballots to Beth Brooks, absentee election manager, Madison County Courthouse, 100 Northside Square, Room 517A, Huntsville, AL 35801-4820. For more information, call 256-532-3668.

In Limestone County, absentee voting is allowed in several scenarios, including a recent move from the county, being absent from the county on election day, illness and deployment in the military (limestonecounty-al.gov/PDFfiles/Elections/Electioninformation.pdf).

As in Madison County, March 8 is the last date in Limestone County to apply for absentee voting.

To apply, contact Circuit Court Clerk Charles Page Jr., Limestone County Courthouse, 200 W. Washington St., Athens, AL 35611. For more information, call 256-233-6406.

In Alabama, the primary run-off election will be held April 24. The general election is scheduled for Nov. 6.
