When a new school year starts in August, Madison will transition to have two high schools and some students rezoned to different schools.

The Central Office staff has created a webpage that compiles numerous links to answer questions, provide documents and explain procedures for students who will enter new schools.

“We are pleased to announce a new link on our webpage designed to assist parents and students in preparation of the 2012-2013 school year,” Superintendent Dee Fowler said recently in email distribution.

On Madison City Schools’ home page (madisoncity.k12.al.us), the left column lists the “2012-2013 Info.” This section can answer most questions from parents and students, Fowler said.

The Documents link offers paper or electronic documents that families need for waivers and athletic eligibility. The FAQ link (frequently asked questions) answers many queries from school families. “You will probably find answers for any rumors you may have heard,” Fowler said.

The FAQS page lists questions by category, including Academics, Athletics, James Clemens Amenities and Waivers. For questions in these categories, a brief answer is provided; after clicking the question, a detailed explanation appears.

The Links page has shortcuts to separate maps of zone lines for elementary schools and for middle/high schools. Links to James Clemens and Bob Jones high schools, along with Discovery and Liberty middle schools, are available.

“Next year promises to be a year of excitement for our community and our school system,” Fowler said. “It is also a time of transition.”

Dennis James said the school staff understands that the transition can be stressful times for students and their parents. James is coordinator of safety, security, communications and student services for the Madison district.

“Hopefully, this webpage can be a place where you can find answers you need,” he said.
