    Talk of Toney

    By Staff
    Lighthouse Baptist Church News:
Several members from the youth group at Lighthouse Baptist Church attended the Fifth Annual Soul Stock event a few weeks ago. Everyone had a great time and the place was packed. When the "Newsboys" took stage, the place went crazy. Christian music really seems to be taking off these days. Attending from Lighthouse were: Audrey Copen, Sabrina Harris, Tasha Thomas, Heather Tcherneshoff, Steven Fergusion, James Panter and Jocelyn Panter.
Other news at Lighthouse Baptist Church:
We are currently preparing for our Vacation Bible School to be held on July 8-12.
The theme for this year will be Amazon Outfitters. This is always something big and this year promises to big the biggest yet.
Congratulations go out to John and Angela Wilson on the birth of their daughter, Kaitlyn Renee Wilson, born May 14. The proud grandparents are Johnny and Jane Bray. She weighed 6 pounds and 2 ounces and was 19 inches long.
The church-wide picnic will be Sunday, May 26, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Please bring whatever you would like to be cooked on the grill and any covered dish or desert you would like. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m.
We send our prayer concerns to Pam and Doug Watson, who is recovering from Lasik surgery. Ginger Norris who is suffering with back problems and Doris Smeltzer who is also suffering from back problems

    Toney Volunteer Fire Department News:
It's time to clean out those garages, attics and closets. The annual "Spring Fling Rummage Sale" needs your help. This year, the fire department is headed back to Station 1 at 5678 Old Railroad Bed Road for the rummage sale. The sale will be held on June 1 from 6a.m. – 2p.m.
Donated items can be taken directly to the fire department on any Tuesday between the hours of 7-9 p.m.
If needed, contact Station 1 at 852-3311 to arrange a pick up of the items you are donating. Donations need to be clean, serviceable and not broken. Limited cloths will be taken. They must be clean and in good condition. All donations are tax deductible with receipts given upon request.
The sale of these items will go toward the equipment, maintenance, buildings, utilities, fire prevention, emergency medical services, education of our volunteers and other things.
The volunteers risk their lives to help people in need of assistance anytime, anywhere. These funds are necessary to serve and protect our community.
Since last year, the Toney Volunteer Fire Department has added two more members who have completed the 160-hour Fire Fighter 1 course.
Two more volunteers are enrolling in the class and two in the EMT basic class. The numbers are increasing for our department. Last year, 617 calls were answered with approximately 60 percent being medical calls. The Toney area now has five "Quick Response" medical cars in operation.
Station 3 should be completed and in operation this summer. With the new station, a new water storage tank in Bobo and new fire hydrants, an ISO evaluation will be conducted in the near future.
    Soccer News:
If you missed soccer registration and you are interested in playing, call 828-5091 to be put on the list for teams.
We need to know how many players and teams we are going to have to order uniforms for the season. If you are interested in being a coach or referee, free classes are offered. Most classes begin in August and are held in the evenings. Games begin on Aug. 24 with season over at the end of October.
Older age groups may extend to the beginning of November due to tournaments. All kids are encouraged to play. Ages 4 1/2 to 17 will be allowed. Cutoff day July 31. Registration is $50. This includes a uniform and insurance for each player. If you have two children in the immediate family playing, registration is $95. If you have three or more children in the same family playing, registration is $125.
The last day of registration is July 6 from 2 p.m. – 6p.m at Blue Water Springs Pool. Teams will be formed July 13. Practice will began in August.
