The Madison County Board of Education has been awarded a $744,596 grant from the Department of Education to help boost student achievement in American History.
The grant will go toward training for more than 90 U.S. history teachers to improve their knowledge, teaching skills, confidence and classroom management in American history. The grant will provide U.S. history teachers in grades 5-7 and 10-12 with staff development, experimental learning, and professional collaboration in American history. Participating Madison County teachers will make extended trips to sites illustrating historical periods and develop lessons for the classroom based on these visits.
Approximately 14,400 students in Madison County will benefit from the grant.
