Dustin Haraway has ‘Tiger pride’ for Georgetown College

MADISON – At Georgetown College in Kentucky, Dustin Haraway plays “‘tiger’ position, strong side outside linebacker.”

As a Bob Jones High School senior in 2013, Dustin was team captain, awarded All-Region honors and named “Player of the Week” twice. A National Honor Society member, he graduated with a 4.0 GPA.

His first year at Georgetown was “rough. I was still fighting a nagging foot injury from high school,” Dustin said. His recuperation required his entire freshman year. “This fall, I’ll be a senior in the classroom and a redshirt junior on field.”

He participates in Kinesiology and Health Studies Club and campus outreach. His brother Dustin, some friends and he founded a Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter. Dustin joined an investment team that manages a $300,000 stock portfolio. “Real money,” he said.

His parents are Steve and Donna Haraway. Steve represents District 2 on Madison County Commission. Donna works as a buyer for Huntsville City Schools. Dustin’s brother Dylan is a Georgetown junior and also plays football.

Q & A

Q: What restaurants do you like?
A: La Placita. “My good friend Antonio is the owner and always takes good care of us,” Dustin said.

Q: What is your favorite sports team?
A: “First and foremost, the Georgetown Tigers: basketball (almost winning a national championship), volleyball, softball, lacrosse, soccer, baseball. Tiger Pride!” He supports the Indianapolis Colts, Atlanta Braves and Dallas Mavericks. “Dirk Nowitzki is the man.”

Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?
A: “The Bob Jones-James Clemens game my senior year was unforgettable … best atmosphere I’ve ever played in (with) 10,000 people. We ran to the student section and got hyped up,” Dustin said. “The night we beat Florence … was a wild, high-scoring game; we held them off on the last drive. Then, in region championships against Austin, we were down 13-10 with under two minutes. Trey Bates led a 70-yard drive (for) a 17-13 win. We completed passes to five different guys.”

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: Hunting and fishing. Dustin recently killed a nine-point deer. He enjoys time with family and friends in Madison.

Q: What are your plans?
A: Dustin has a double major in economics and communication. He plans to either play fifth year at Georgetown or attend graduate school elsewhere and finish his football career.
