MADISON – Spring definitely has arrived with plans for the annual plant sale by Madison Garden Club.

The sale on May 2 from 8:00 a.m. to noon will be held at 100 Bluebelle Drive, just off Sullivan Street near Old Madison Pike. “There is plenty of parking room and easy access,” club publicist Suzanne Kirkhuff said.

Garden club members have raised and nurtured plants for the sale in their own home lawns. The plants “are from mature stock that have thrived in our hot summers and clay soil and should do well in local gardens,” Kirkhuff said.

Plants that shoppers will find include daylilies, hostas, tomatoes, peppers, roses, wildflowers, perennials, shrubs, herbs, shade plants and annuals. The club also will have a “mini-flea market,” she said.

“The very gardeners who donated the plants will staff the sale. The buyers can hear first-hand planting tips and instructions,” Kirkhuff said. Most club members have earned the rank of Master Gardener.

In addition, Master Gardener Dorothy Thomas will attend and answer gardening questions with her “Ask a Master Gardener” spot.

The club will use sale proceeds to fund their projects throughout the year. “Among these projects are the maintenance of the front garden at Madison Public Library, filling the plant pots on Main Street and decorating City Hall for Christmas,” Kirkhuff said.

The club will fund the “Every Light A Prayer for Peace” program in December, which culminates with awards to several Madison elementary school fifth-graders for their essay on “What Peace Means to Me.” The club also will donate funds and assist with the Shiloh Cemetery Bible Garden and antique rose garden on Mill Road.
