County residents asked to conserve water from July 1-15
All Madison County water customers are asked to conserve water from July 1-15 while water officials put the new water treatment facility on line.
During this time, all wells will be pumping at full capacity to fill every reservoir in the county in preparation for the putting the facility on line. The official switch will occur on Tuesday, July 9, and will take a day and a half to complete. During that time, all water will be pumped from storage tanks.
Career prep program receives $200,000 grant
Gov. Don Siegelman recently awarded a $200,000 grant to continue a Madison County program that aids students in making career choices and providing job training. The School-to-Career program is in its fourth year. Students in kindergarten through grade 12 are exposed to a variety of jobs through tours, videos, speakers and job shadowing. High school students can select a curriculum geared to their career choice and receive training. The program is designed to provide students not attending college with workplace skills. The grant was made available to the state through a joint program of the U.S. Departments of Labor and Education.
