Strong secures overdue Purple Heart for wounded veteran
WASHINGTON—Congressman Dale W. Strong (AL-05) recently presented a Purple Heart to Sergeant John W. Mc-Culloch of Madison County.
“I’m proud to secure this well-deserved Purple Heart for Sergeant McCulloch. Our country should cherish its wounded veterans, and this decoration ensures that sacrifices in battle are not forgotten back home. Americans around the country should be thankful for the sacrifice of men like Sergeant McCulloch,” said Rep. Dale Strong In February 2007, while deployed to Northern Iraq, SGT McCulloch was injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) detonation that resulted in longterm health issues. Upon learning of SGT McCulloch’s case, Congressman Strong was able to obtain the Purple Heart through the Awards and Decorations Branch of the U.S. Army Human Resources Command. The Purple Heart has since been presented for his physical sacrifice to the United States.
“I tried on my own for five years, and even with all the proper documentation I couldn’t get anyone to do anything, so I went to Congressman Strong,” said SGT McCulloch.
Congressman Strong said he is proud to work on behalf of veterans and help them obtain the honors they have earned.
