Madison man, former Ardmore teacher charged with having sex with student
MADISON – A former Ardmore High School teacher was arrested in Madison County on Thursday and charged with engaging in sexual misconduct with a student, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office said Nicholas James Murphy, 35, a Madison resident, was charged with two counts of school employee engaged in sexual contact, two counts of school employee engaged in a sexual act, and two counts of school employee soliciting obscene material.
Murphy resigned his position as a performance arts teacher with Ardmore High School on Jan. 13, according to a statement from Limestone County Schools, and the school district accepted his resignation on Jan. 14.
The arrest was part of a joint operation between the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Homeland Investigations, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
Murphy remained in the Madison County Jail on Friday in lieu of a $70,000 bond, according to jail records.
