Harvest woman wins strongest competition
HARVEST – Stephanie Plummer of Harvest continues to prove what she stated, “I can do anything I set my mind to.” The 40-year old City of Huntsville Schools teacher recently traveled to Calhoun, Ga. and came away with the first-place trophy in the Northwest Georgia Strongest Man/Woman competition.
Plummer posted top scores in four of the five individual skills events that made up the tough competition that was held at the Wolves Den Barbell Club benefiting the VFW Post 5376 in Calhoun.
“I feel like I was relaxed, but prepared for this competition as I took my time and prayed a lot that the Good Lord would calm me down,” said Plummer, who has worked towards this event after competing in Alabama’s Strongest Man/Woman in the summer. “I spent a lot of my workout time lifting heavier weights, which better prepared me. I felt more confident, and I was surprised the amount of weight they loaded on the devices. Nobody knew what the weight would be until they loaded each device.”
Plummer’s final results included: 1) Viking Press- 16 Reps in 60 seconds (highest rep count of all women divisions) 2) Yoke Carry into Tire Flips- Carried 320 lb yoke 50ft and flipped a 600 lb tire 50ft in 2 minutes and 35 seconds 3) Conan’s wheel- completed 3.5 revolutions in 60 seconds 4) Arm over Arm Pull Medley-Pulled 685 lbs while bracing (sitting) on the 600 lb tire 5) Tire deadlifts- completed 4 tire deadlifts with 305 lbs in under 60 seconds “I trained much harder this time as I took time to make the proper adjustments,” said Plummer, who works out at 24/7 Health Club in Harvest. “I was very focused and that allowed me to be better prepared and set my mind to do anything I want to.”
The 5-foot-8, 185-pound Plummer is already a success story. She suffered a near-death auto accident nearly 20 years ago suffering a traumatic brain injury, broken bones and had to have hip replacement surgery and went through years of recuperation having to learn again to write, walk and talk.
She now looks at some additional competitions in the spring including the Strongman in Kentucky and the Georgia Strongest in June, both before her return to the Alabama Strongest scheduled for August.
