Draft of ‘Madison on Track 2045’ open for public review
MADISON – The draft of “Madison on Track 2045 Draft – Comprehensive Plan” is complete and ready for public review.
Currently, the City of Madison is seeking the public’s opinions on the Comprehensive Plan during the comment period open until Jan. 24, 2025. An Open House for public comment is scheduled for Jan. 6, 2025.
Madison on Track 2045 involves community-based planning to shape Madison’s future by updating the city’s Comprehensive Plan, which will be used as a policy document by city leaders, developers, business owners and citizens for decisions about future growth, development, policy and capital improvements.
The plan identifies future land uses, mobility improvements, parks, public safety and other infrastructure improvements needed to achieve identified goals. In general, comprehensive plans typically guide development during a 15- to 20-year period.
Madison on Track 2045 will be shaped by Madison’s past landuse development patterns, economic growth, transportation network and capital investment priorities. To advance for the future, residents must understand the city’s past decisions.
“At its core, the Madison on Track 2045 Comprehensive Plan boils down to what Madison will look and feel like, and how it will function as a community, 20 years in the future,” Mary Beth Broeren, Director of Development Services, said.
Online supporting documents “offer policy guidance and strategic recommendations on where Madison residents will live, how they will move about the community and how their quality of life will be defined,” Broeren said.
“In developing this direction, the plan took into consideration numerous opportunities and constraints, informed by stakeholder and public input as well as local, regional and national trends,” Broeren said.
By reviewing the plan, a person can learn more about existing conditions, past and present policy and current local, regional and national trends that will influence Madison on Track’s development.
City staff and elected officials selected Advisory Committee members for Madison on Track 2045: Bonnie Ayers, Dr. Yeqing Bao, Curtis Cook, Jennessa Crosswy, Michelle Epling, Jenny Evers, Brian Goodwin, Dr. Terri Johnson, Melissa Lacey, Paul Lambertson, Karen Lawler, Michael McKay, Charles Nola, Tommy Overcash, Mike Potter, Kerry Straub, Terris Tatum, Eric Terrell and Taron Thorpe.
