Queen’s Quest Chess Tournament attracts over 100 students
MADISON – More than 100 Madison youth entered and competed in the 2024 Queen’s Quest Chess Tournament on Nov. 16.
Midtown Elementary School hosted Queen’s Quest, presented by Madison City Chess League or MCCL. “Thank you to State Sen. Tom Butler for sponsoring this event,” MCCL Executive Director Todd Guthrie said.
“The tournament featured many individual and team awards, a fantastic environment, and delicious concessions, including food from Mei Wei and Chickfil- A. We hope everyone had a great experience,” Guthrie said.
Students and teams reached these standings in the tournament, starting with first place and proceeding to subsequent place wins:
• K-3 Under 300 Section — Saarung Sree; Noah House; tied for third, Neil Hsu and Eugene Baker; tied for fifth, Yuan Su, Grahame Barnett, Barrett Smith, Kolby Grissim and Talon Busby.
• K-3 Championship Section — Warner Smith; Arjun Narahari; tied for third place, Rishika Baipu, Henry Saulters and Udara Sarathchandra; Micah Thomas, sixth place; and Austin Pullum, seventh place.
• K-5 Championship Section — Jonathan Lam; tied for second place, Charlie Saulters, Ananth Ravishekar, Rais Nichols, Samuel Ellis and Dennis Lenski.
• K-8 Championship Section — Tied for first place, Asher Allison, Isaac Kreusser, and Alice Zou; Parker Klein, fourth; tied for fifth place, Noah Hsu, Avyaktha Subramania, Abigail Barbre, Connor Buse, Mason Park and Isaac Doyle.
• K-12 Open Section — Tied for first place, Sophia Jerez, Artem Starenki, Kylie Zou and Esteban Jerez.
Team awards in Queen’s Quest for the K-3 Under 300 designation included Midtown elementary, first; Rainbow Elementary School, second place; Mill Creek Elementary School, third; and Horizon Elementary School, fourth place.
For the K-3 Section, students who earned awards are in teams from Midtown elementary, first; and Rainbow elementary, second. Queen’s Quest’s K-5 Section resulted in team awards for Rainbow elementary, first; Midtown elementary, second; Horizon elementary, third; and Randolph School, fourth place.
Team awards in the K-8 Section went to Discovery Middle School, first place; Journey Middle School, second; and Randolph School, third.
The schools represented in the K-12 team awards were Bob Jones High School, first place; and Journey, second.
