Roundhouse, orchestra continue Christmas cheer Dec. 8
MADISON – Events filled with seasonal cheer will continue in downtown Madison with an Open House at the Madison Roundhouse and a Christmas concert by Madison City Community Orchestra. “Please join us at the Madison Station Historical Preservation Society’s Christmas Open House at the Roundhouse on the Village Green. The Open House on Dec. 8 will welcome visitors from 3 to 4:30 p.m.,” Debbie Overcash, President of the historical society, said.
Madison Historian John Rankin will share his vast knowledge of the city’s history. The tour of the Roundhouse will include holiday refreshments for guests to enjoy.
“Mr. Rankin has remarkable stories of Madison’s rich past; this is a great opportunity for families to learn more about the history of our dear city,” Overcash said.
Immediately following the Roundhouse Open House, individuals can stroll over to experience the 2024 Christmas Concert presented by the Madison City Community Orchestra or MCCO. The concert’s venue will be Madison Methodist Church at 127 Church St.
The concert will start at 5 p.m. on Dec. 8. “What a great afternoon of Christmas celebrations,” Overcash said.
“Our concert this winter is ‘Christmas Around the World,’” MCCO Director Sandy Weisner said.
“We will begin with a compilation of lots of wonderful songs, followed by ‘Russian Christmas’ from Russia, ‘Stille Nacht’ from Germany, ‘O Holy Night’ from France, ‘Carol of the Bells’ from the Ukraine, as well as ‘Carillon on Forest Green’ from England,” Weisner said.
“We will have our yearly silent auction again this year with many things from the conductor’s basket to numerous gift cards,” Weisner said.
In addition, “we will also showcase our concertmaster’s directing debut with ‘Sleigh Ride,’ which is an American song,” Weisner said. MCCO Concertmaster Justin Kelley works as a computer engineer and lives in Huntsville. He has played violin for 14 years, beginning in the fifth grade at Eura Brown Elementary School.
Kelley has played in ensembles, such as Etowah Youth Orchestra and Georgia Tech Chamber Orchestra. “Music is a great passion of his, as he also plays mandolin, piano, and guitar,” Weisner said. In his free time, Kelley enjoys rock climbing, running, watching football games and playing video games.
